Cruel Beauty

The hearts entwined
Between him and her
For me to see
Private
But Public

Smiling at the tenderness
The blade unnoticed slips in

This will not be for me
The scream cry muffled

Lovers,
In your bliss
Spare a glance
At this fallen soul
Pity me and tread softly

For under your foot
My broken heart
Weary of being trampled and starved
Cries out

Not to end your joy
But to find a small space
Free from brine
And scabs reborn

Yes,
Love joyously and well
But,
Remember,
Under your foot,
Sometimes
The beauty of love
Is Cruel.
